FAQ

What is headlight restoration?

Oxidation occurs from UV rays, road contaminates, weather, and car wash chemicals. This oxidation causes plastic headlight lenses to become foggy and yellowed. I remove the oxidation using a multi-step micro-sanding process. Then the lens is polished, and finally, I apply a sealant to protect the plastic from further oxidation.

The sealant is a professional grade sealant made specifically for plastic lenses. It is not a wax that wears off after a few car washes like the cheap kits you can buy at Walmart or auto parts stores.

How long does the restoration process take?

Typically, my process takes 1.5 - 2 hours to restore a set of headlights, depending on how hazy they are.

How long does it last?

Headlights restored using my personally-developed professional system should last up to two years. Headlights exposed to higher than normal amounts of car wash chemicals and UV rays may need to be restored more often. (Two years is about the same period of time when new headlights begin to oxidize.)

Will my headlights look like new?

In most cases, your headlights will look like new. You will be surprised at how your headlights sparkle after I restore them.

Can you repair a hole or crack in my headlight?

Although headlight lenses can be removed then repaired with resin, I do not provide this service.

Can you replace my headlights?

I do not replace headlights. Please contact an auto mechanic for this service.

Is it worth restoring instead of replacing my headlights?

Restoration costs much less than replacement. Usually, it is about one-fourth the cost compared to buying new headlight lenses. Even if you decide to buy new headlights, after about two years, they begin to oxidize again. It is significantly cheaper to restore, then every two years, call me for a touch-up.

Will restoring the headlights raise the value of my vehicle?

Yes, you can often get a better price for a used vehicle when it looks like new. Shiny headlights can improve the overall appearance of your vehicle. See the headlight lens restoration photo gallery.

Will I be able to see better at night?

Safety is the most important reason to restore foggy, yellowed headlights. Clear headlights can significantly improve your ability to see the road at night and during bad weather. They also reduce glare experienced by oncoming drivers. Many states include clear headlights as part of their vehicle safety inspection requirements.

See Headlights and Safety for more information.
